With one of our main differentiators being our electric height adjustable equipment, we pride ourselves on being able to create healthy workspaces for employees in any industry. But height adjustability isn’t the only thing you can do to design a more ergonomic workspace. With the ability to now tilt worksurfaces, ergonomics is taking on a whole new level. Understanding tilt worksurfaces, BUILT encountered a need for this with a newer customer. Knowing that tailored solutions are something that the BUILT Systems’ team can make happen, this customer wanted to know if we could take it to another level. When presented with this request, the Engineering team worked to develop the perfect product to fit the needs of the end-user.

This specific request was to design a heavy-duty, height-adjustable workstation with a tilting work surface.

The Problem

This customer needed a steady work surface that supported wrapping automotive seating with the feature of it tilting to support ergonomic efforts in this application

The Criteria

This workstation needed to be rigid, along with having powered height adjustment and a powered tilt work surface. It needed to be able to support a 100lb tool from the light frame, and have dual switches to control light and fan. It also needed the option of being able to anchor to the cement floor.

Brainstorming and Design

Having designed an ergonomic tilt table in the past, the design team at BUILT was able to work off existing designs along with feedback from the customer. With initial feedback being that they needed a more heavy-duty solution, the engineers quickly went to work to develop this workstation. Once the initial criteria and ideas were set, they were able to take the existing height-adjustable and modular standard machine base and add an electric-adjustable tilting work surface. This resulted in a product that utilized a Machine Base frame instead of the standard Assembly Table, along with utilizing dual switch controls. This setup allowed for the support of heavy tools and supplied a quick disconnect manifold for the customer’s air supply. This product is something that we at BUILT are proud to display.

From workbenches to machine bases to material handling products, BUILT Systems is ready to supply exactly what is needed to improve processes and efficiency in any facility. Every facility has different needs, and we have the ability to adapt our products to create perfect solutions. So when a customer approached us with a need for a rotating Parts AGV Cart, the BUILT Systems team jumped at the opportunity to help.

To create this rotating parts AGV rack, the team at BUILT needed to think outside of the box and come up with an all-new design. Using existing and proven design methods, the engineering team began creating a product to fit exactly what was needed.

The Problem

A customer needed an automated guided vehicle cart solution that could accommodate 8 different part sizes and styles, while also having the ability to be attached to a fork truck or tugger system in case the AGV system failed.

The Criteria

Every cart needed to have the same dimensional footprint with the lowest pull height at 24in and the max pull height at 60in. They also needed to be equipped with non-marring/marking surfaces for all parts that touch plastic, along with color-coded end panels, user side foot breaks, integrated part guards, and integrated tugger accessory locations. To finish it off, the cart needed to integrate a turntable with a lock for ease of access to parts on both sides of the cart.

Brainstorming and Design

Many hours went into the design and details of these carts. This project originally started in April of 2020. After an initial design and prototyping, BUILT engineers went back to the drawing board and changed the overall design. The initial problems that were encountered included access to both sides of the cart, the number of parts that could fit in one cart, and the addition of plastic to surround the parts. In the end, the amazing collaboration between the customer and BUILT made the final design nearly perfect.

After making these necessary changes, the cart was ready for production. The integrated turntable proved to be the game-changer. This allowed the automated guided cart to back the cart into a specific location, and the user would not have to walk around the cart to access both sides. This decreased the amount of time needed to pull parts and assemble on the line.

Designing the perfect solution for customers is one of the things we do best at BUILT Systems, and this is because we began by designing the perfect solutions for our own facility. This heavy-duty inventory rack is a product that began as a need for our very own facility. Seeing the need for this product beyond our walls has allowed us to expand on this design and offer it to many customers since.

To create this inventory rack, the team at BUILT needed to think outside of the box and come up with an all-new design. Using existing and proven design methods, the engineering team began creating a product to fit exactly what was needed.

The Problem

Mansco was providing kanban hardware that needed an easy FIFO system for stocking bins.

The Criteria

The racks needed to be 6 rows high, 4 columns wide, and fit a standard bin size that Mansco provided. Each section needed to hold 4-5 bins deep to allow for high volume parts.

Brainstorming and Design

Initial design started with making the bin in CAD, then patterning the bin into the width, height, and depth needed. The engineering team then added the steel components into the assembly, marrying them with the bin pattern, verifying that everything fit and “flowed” properly. Once the steel matched the bin pattern, each welded part was tested via simulation to verify the strength. Once each welded part passed, the overall rack system was tested in simulation to verify the weight capacity.

The whole rack ended up being modular weldments that bolt together. 12ga steel tube weldments support each shelf, allowing the shelves to hold up to 400lbs each. Integrated forklift guides allow for a forklift to move these racks once they are fully assembled. These features allowed these rack to be semi-mobile (via forklift) structures that provided easy stocking and inventory views. The stability of this rack allows for a solid, strong, heavy-duty inventory rack that we at BUILT are proud to display.

Arising from the standard assembly table, this tailored workstation proved to be a complete solution for the 5S processes in the organization during quality inspections. The Problem

This specific customer needed a quality inspection station specifically designed for 5S methodology. Current workstations in the facility did not accommodate for proper organization of tools and supplies.

The Criteria

The workstations needed to have a place to hang tools, wright notes, support multiple color paint cans, storage drawers, and a place for a printer below. It also needed to be optimized for paperwork organization with the ability to retrieve paperwork from the backside, along with a stamp holder and pen holder.

Needing this table to be a complete solution for the operator, our team collaborated with the customer to ensure it would be everything they needed. Beginning with the standard Assembly Table 400, they added various standard and custom accessories to fit exactly what the customer was looking for. The paint can holder on the side, the stamp holder, and being able to retrieve paperwork from the back side of the workstation all made for the perfect quality inspection station for this customer’s specific needs.

When presented with this request, the Engineering team worked to develop a perfect work center to fit the needs of the end-user.

To make this happen, the team at BUILT needed to take the existing modular machine base design and think outside of the box. Using existing and proven design methods, the engineering team began creating a product to fit exactly what this customer requested.

The Problem

This customer needed a work center where each user had the ability to be face to face. They also needed mesh guarding and the ability to shroud the entire system.

The Criteria

The work center needed to have 3 sided mesh guarding and it needed to be electric height-adjustable. It was also required to have shrouding mounting locations, pneumatic control mounting locations, and have yellow safety borders for the guarding.

Brainstorming and Design

The design team at BUILT quickly went to work to develop this dual work center. Several design review meetings provided the team with the necessary details needed. After bouncing ideas back and forth to figure out spacing and exact locations for controls, the engineering team went into designing this solution. Taking an existing modular design and modifying it to have panel mount locations, pneumatic control mounting locations, 3 sided 1/2in mesh guarding, dual-LED, and dual FAN locations, they came up with the perfect solution. This dual work center is something that we at BUILT are proud to display.

To create the perfect solution, the team at BUILT took into account every problem that the customer was looking to solve and collaborated with them until it was exactly what they were looking for.

The Problem

The customer needed a custom-designed rack to hold sub-assemblies of a product prior to the final assembly.

The Criteria

The cart needed to hold parts at an angle so that they could be removed during the assembly process without contacting the other parts on the rack. The parts could not touch each other during transport or slide off the racks. The cart also needed 4 swivel casters and a floor lock.

Brainstorming and Design

The design team at BUILT quickly went to work to develop this mobile parts rack. The customer supplied a couple of the parts to model into SolidWorks to verify fit and function. With the 3D model created, they were able to construct a system that met the criteria of holding the parts at an angle and fixed in place and prevented them from contacting each other. This resulted in a product that is completely modular and durable, giving it the ability to be reused over and over again. This product is something that we at BUILT are proud to display.

Finding the perfect solution for any customer is something that BUILT Systems takes stride in. So when a customer needed to find the perfect workstation for their facility, the team jumped at the opportunity to help. This ESD Workstation combines aspects of our machine base series, workbench series, and material handling series all in one product. The modularity of this product along with the customizable light frame allows this product to be very versatile, and we at BUILT are proud to display it.

The Problem

This customer wanted a large, semi-mobile workstation that was able to have adjustable flow racks on each side for all the sub-components needed in the assembly of their product.

The Criteria

This workstation needed to be height adjustable, ESD compliant (paint and work surface), and needed to have adjustable flow racks on each side of the work center. This user also needed a location to mount several torque gun controllers and pneumatic controls for testing the assembly once complete.

Brainstorming and Design

With this being a rather large, modular design, it was important to create a structure that was strong enough to support the load of the station itself, as well as the materials that would be placed on it. One main issue was the overall height of the station exceeded the door height of all standard shipping trucks, so the system needed to “collapse” to fit into the shipping container. Another required addition was a custom colored ESD paint. This paint allowed the whole frame to be grounded and dissipate any static electricity created from the sub-components of the assembly.

This was one of the first workstations that integrated adjustable flow racks (with rollers). This design feature required a way to easily adjust the height of the racks. It also made them lightweight enough to adjust them without the use of heavy machinery. This end-user has multiple variations of their final product that require different sized components. The ability to use/order 1 station to fit multiple assembly lines made the process easy for the end-user.
