Sound Dampening Cover Is BUILT for Metal Cutting Saw

Benteler Automotive reached out to BUILT Systems for a solution to contain noise levels on a manufacturing saw. A custom product was designed and manufactured meeting all requirements, including effectiveness, usability, and simple installation. Introduction

The sawing process of aluminum profiles into sticks is an incredibly loud metal on metal operation that is taking place in the Benteler Automotive facility, located in Holland, Michigan. In their mission to lower the overall noise decibel levels in their manufacturing plant, the team at Benteler took note of this sawing process and began looking for a solution.

Sound Dampening Cover

After determining that a covering for the machine could work to cage the noise, they were tasked with finding a manufacturer who could create this custom device and meet all of the requirements at hand.

The cover would clearly need to be effective at dampening the sound, would need access doors with removable features for maintenance and access to stuck parts, have a small profile, and have easy installation.

“We are required to get three quotes for everything we do. BUILT Systems came back with the best design and had better customer service all around. You could tell the designer actually cared about what he was making. The people at BUILT have great character, which is huge for me,” said Victor Pizarro, safety specialist at Benteler.

Overall, the cover was deemed effective, noted by operators, maintenance, and the safety team, and has a reduction rate, on average, of 4.7 – 7.9 decibels when compared to tests runs prior to the cover installation. Benteler is making an effort to reduce their entire plant sound levels to below 80dB.
