With ergonomics on the rise in many facets of manufacturing, machine builders and manufacturing engineers are looking for solutions that are easy to implement. This was a situation that BUILT encountered with a local machine builder. Knowing that tailored solutions are something that the BUILT Systems’ team can make happen, this customer wanted to know if we could take it to another level. When presented with this request, the Engineering team worked to develop a perfect set of products to fit the needs of the end-user.
This specific request was to design a bigger, fully welded, and customizable Machine Base for a variety of applications. That request started them down a path that has made BUILT into a spec’d system for many of the projects they take on.
To make this happen, the team at BUILT needed to take the existing modular machine bases and make them bigger. Using existing and proven design methods, the engineering team began creating a hybrid product line to fit exactly what this customer requested.
The Problem
The need for a heavy-duty base that could lift 6500 lbs and provide a complete solution for a specific machine builder.
The Criteria
The base had to be fully welded, heavy-duty, and durable. Height adjustable with loads up to 6500lbs. It also needed to have a frame that allowed for quick and easy mounting of tool plates, machines, and enclosures.
Brainstorming and Design
The design team at BUILT quickly went to work to develop this heavy-duty system. Several in-person meetings and lots of emails and CAD data provided the team with the necessary details needed. Once the initial criteria and ideas were set, the engineering team went into designing this solution. Taking an existing modular design and modifying it to be a fully welded, heavy-duty system resulted in a product design that is exactly what was ordered.
